La Dama del Alba

b. Séneca painted Death as supreme serenity , a nice liberator, and friendly counselor. Casona seemed to do the same thing in La Dama. He portrayed death as friendly and, at times, a peaceful escape from the world. However, his portrayol of death as a woman was original. He personified death as a woman who did not particularly like her job and would rather be a living person, experienceing life and love. Contrastingly to how Séneca made death seem like the ultimate goal, the best part of existence, Casona portrayed how life should be embraced. He showed la Peregrina feeling sorrow because of her duty to take peoples' lives, demonstrating how death is not always the better alternative to life.

c. I do think that Casona has a mix of reality and fantasy throughout the whole drama. The reality part is the family in mourning. The story of the family, how they lost a loved one and mourned by not going out to celebrations is a reality in Spain. The whole story line of Angelica leaving Martin for another man and everyone believing she died could have really happened. The fantasy is that death comes in the physical form of a woman who can kiss peoples' eyes and they go blind, and whoever she touches dies. The fantasy and reality is maintained throughout the play.
